Types of Oral Surgery

At Caring Modern Dentistry, we strive to provide and offer almost all dental services that one could need to make things as convenient as possible for our patients. Not all dental offices in the Reidsville, North Carolina, area provide extensive dental treatments such as oral surgery. Luckily for our patients who need grafting due to tooth, bone, or tissue loss, they can be treated right here in our office.

There are multiple reasons why a patient would need to undergo oral surgery such as:

  • Sleep apnea treatment
  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Corrective jaw surgery
  • Placement of dental implants for single-tooth restorations, bridges, or dentures
  • Bone grafting
  • Gum grafting
  • Sinus Lifts

In our office, we are qualified and have undergone specific training to perfect two oral surgery procedures: bone and gum grafting. If you are unaware of what each of these oral surgery procedures is, please continue reading to learn more about how they can help you obtain your perfect smile.

Bone Grafting

After a tooth has been lost and due to the lack of stimulation that hits the jaw bone normally caused by chewing, the bone can start to deteriorate. It is also possible to experience bone loss in the most severe stages of periodontal disease. When bone density is lost, and a patient wants to take advantage of our permanent restorative procedures, we need to graft the bone back to its original form so the restorations will have a sturdy foundation.

Bone grafting consists of transplanting healthy bone to repair or rebuild damaged or deteriorated bone. The dentist will make a small incision where the graft is needed, then will attach the new bone to the original, deteriorated bone. Once the new bone is placed and surrounding tissues are sealed around it, new bone cells are created around the transplanted or grafted material to strengthen and build up the bone.

Once the new bone has fully fused to the original bone and the surgical site has healed, we will work together to move further into your restorative treatment plan.

Gum Grafting

Periodontal disease or gum disease is an infection of the gum tissue that is caused by poor oral hygiene to remove plaque. Once plaque has built up and hardened, an infection in the gums starts and spreads if not removed immediately. In the most severe stages of periodontal disease, our gum tissue starts to recede and fall away from the tooth also causing tooth loss.

When the gum tissue becomes severely infected and has receded, to promote healing, the removal of the infection is necessary and new gum tissue is to be placed. In the gum grafting procedure, we will remove healthy gum tissue from a non-infected portion in the mouth and sew on the tissue where the recession has happened.

Gum grafting promotes healing and restoration after experiencing severe periodontal disease and also gives the patient a natural, beautiful smile.

Performing oral surgery at Caring Modern Dentistry has allowed us to further help our patients receive what they need. For questions or concerns regarding oral surgery please contact our Reidsville, North Carolina office.

Invisalign

Invisalign

Cosmetic dentistry is one of the most popular forms of dentistry due to the multitude of treatments available that can completely enhance a patient’s smile. For our patients at Caring Modern Dentistry here in Reidsville, North Carolina, we only offer the best cosmetic treatments that won’t only give you quick results, but also beautiful results. We get patients in our office every day looking for ways that they can enhance or improve the appearance of their smile. One of our most suggested and recommended treatments is Invisalign.

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that gives similar results to traditional braces but in a more modern and appealing way.

Why Invisalign?

When a patient comes to us with serious malalignment and malocclusion or just wants to straighten their smile, we suggest Invisalign. Orthodontics is the diagnosis and treatment of things such as crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and misaligned teeth. Traditional or metal braces are the most common form of orthodontic treatment but many prefer the benefits of Invisalign.

Instead of using metal brackets and wires, Invisalign consists of a series of clear, plastic aligner sets that slowly over time push or pull your teeth into their straightened form.

Aligners

To start your Invisalign treatment, we work closely with each patient taking photos, x-rays, and impressions of your teeth to create your custom-made sets of aligners. At the beginning of your treatment, you will be given the first set of aligners to wear for around 2 weeks, then a new set will be given to you. Each set of aligners is made to push or pull your teeth further into place.

Depending on your specific smile and the changes that you are wanting to make will determine the total length of time you will need to wear the aligners.

Benefits of Invisalign

  • Metal braces aren’t very discrete and draw a lot of unwanted attention to the patient’s smile, Invisalign is made with clear plastic, therefore, being nearly invisible.
  • The Invisalign treatment can last anywhere from 12-14 months which is generally a shorter time frame than most traditional braces.
  • For adults who are wanting a straighter smile, the thought of having metal braces is discouraging, Invisalign allows all to maintain a more professional appearance.
  • Invisalign aligners can be removed while eating and brushing teeth. No food is off-limits and teeth can stay clean.

Wanting a Change?

You may not love the appearance of your smile but there are options available for you to change it. We want all of our patients to be open to cosmetic dental procedures that can enhance their smile into something that increases confidence.

If you are curious about Invisalign and have questions concerning how soon you can start your customized orthodontic treatment, please contact us, Caring Modern Dentistry in Reidsville, North Carolina. We would be more than happy to give you more information and details on how Invisalign can change your specific smile.
